Small House Makeover

Good morning to you dear readers. Some of you have asked to see smaller houses and rooms so today I'd like to show you how a house in Santa Monica, California, which had been billed as a teardown, was given a second chance by owner Julie Hart.<br /><a href="http://realestate.msn.com/slideshow.aspx?cp-documentid=23434669#1"></a><br /><img alt="Tiny cottage renovation (© Lisa Romerein/Sunset)" height="348" src="http://blstb.msn.com/i/4F/689662FC158C148D45112DCD25F47F.jpg" width="580" /><br />This is the front of the house before the remodeling began.<br /><br /><img alt="Tiny cottage renovation (© Lisa Romerein/Sunset)" src="http://blstb.msn.com/i/C4/BD3C7FBC7D62218218DC1DE4ED3223.jpg" style="width: 581px; height: 348px;" /><br />New oversize windows and skylights invite in the sunshine. Walls are painted a light-bouncing white, while white ceramic subway tiles brighten the kitchen.. Interior Designer Serena Crowley

Interior designer Serena Crowley from California opens up he Canaan, Connecticut where she lives with her husband Paul and their children Mckenna and Theo. Let's take a tour of her sunny welcoming home.<br /><br /><br /><a linkindex="31" href="http://www.traditionalhome.com/images/img_crowleyhouselg_1.html" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://www.traditionalhome.com/images/img_crowleyhouse_1.jpg" style="width: 570px; height: 412px;" /></a><br />The Crowleys’ living room; walls of windows and French doors give the space the feel of a conservatory.  Walls are painted a soft gray and furnishings are in creams and white. Artwork and an antique Oriental rug add punches of color, and potted banana palm trees connect the room to the outdoors. French doors open to a bluestone patio softened with clumps of purple thyme.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.traditionalhome.com/images/img_crowleyhouselg_3.jpg" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://www.traditionalhome.com/images/img_crowleyhouse_3.jpg" style="width: 570px; height: 479px;" /></a><br />The dining room is almost as sun-filled as the living room. China cupboards accent three corners of the room; a fireplace fills the fourth. Above, a collection of hats is displayed.</p><a linkindex="30" href="http://www.traditionalhome.com/images/img_crowleyhouselg_4.jpg" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://www.traditionalhome.com/images/img_crowleyhouse_4.jpg" style="width: 570px; height: 460px;" /></a><br /> <p class="bodyLinks">The kitchen is large. Two islands with thick, honed marble countertops. A black-metal custom hood trimmed with nickel bands hangs above the range. For the range backsplash, Serena used a simple pressed-tin ceiling panel attached to the wall.</p><p class="bodyLinks"><a linkindex="32" href="http://www.traditionalhome.com/images/img_crowleyhouselg_5.jpg" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://www.traditionalhome.com/images/img_crowleyhouse_5.jpg" style="width: 570px; height: 705px;" /></a><br /></p><p class="bodyLinks">Serena’s collection of vintage cookie jars are showcased in glass-front cabinets with hefty polished nickel hinges and pulls. Aix en Provence Residence

<span id="_ctl0_cphBody_m_lDescription">Good morning to all of you dear readers. Monday takes us to this magnificent </span><span id="_ctl0_cphBody_m_lDescription">18th century “Bastide”</span><span id="_ctl0_cphBody_m_lDescription"> in Aix en Provence, in the region of Provence-Alpes- Cote d'Azure, France. It has twenty-five acres of private parklands with olive groves and cypresses, complete with a care-taker’s lodge and numerous additional outbuildings. Situated in a beautiful and quiet countryside location and only three hours from Paris. </span><br /><br />I must say the house itself is breathtaking, I love these solid old houses with their splendid gardens but I don't care much for the decor. Wouldn't you change the furniture in the living room and dining room? Built on an Island

This summer home was built on the island of Mustique in the Grenadines. Before building began, rocks and boulders had to be dislodged from the cliffside using dynamite and jackhammers .All the hard work was well worth it as the result was this gorgeous view of the turquoise waters, white-sand beaches, and barren coastline.<p class="dek"><img alt="Perfect Placement" src="http://img4.coastalliving.com/i/2009/01/mustique-outdoor-area-l.jpg?400:400" style="width: 500px; height: 500px;" /><br /></p><p class="dek">Weather proof furniture to relax in and enjoy the view from the veranda.<br /></p><p class="dek"><img alt="Thoughtful Design" src="http://img4.coastalliving.com/i/2009/01/mustique-pool-loungers-l.jpg?400:400" style="width: 500px; height: 500px;" /></p><p class="dek">Natural materials inspired the home’s exterior palette with walls the colour of wet sand. This pergola adds shade and structure to the pool terrace.</p><p class="dek"><img alt="Sweet Sleep" src="http://img4.coastalliving.com/i/2009/01/mustique-bedroom-l.jpg?400:400" style="width: 500px; height: 500px;" /></p><p class="dek">A high, vented roof and ceiling fans keep hot air from building up in the bedrooms. The white paint and fabrics contribute to this bedroom’s cool feeling.</p><p class="dek"><img alt="Wide-Open Spaces" src="http://img4.coastalliving.com/i/2009/01/mustique-living-room-l.jpg?400:400" style="width: 500px; height: 500px;" /></p><p class="dek">The only glass in the house’s architecture is in the French doors to the veranda.
